Winter Park All mountain program

Want your child to develop all-around skiing skills that will provide the foundation for competitive skiing? The All Mountain Development Program is the first step for skiers joining the Competition Center for the first time. Skiers in this program move on to our competitive teams specializing in specific disciplines such as alpine racing, freestyle moguls, and freeski park and pipe.

Have a middle or high school skier who loves to ski advanced terrain and wants to do so with peers of similar ability? The All Mountain Team is designed for pre-teens and teens who want to ski the most advanced terrain on the mountain, and serves as a stepping stone for those wishing to develop the skills to join the Big Mountain Competitive Team. It also ideal for those who were previously on one of the competitive teams and want to stay on the Ski Team but no longer compete.

    • All Mountain Development (AMP Devo)

The All Mountain Development Program (AMP Devo) is a 14-week ski program geared toward skiers ages 6 to 12 who are of intermediate ability or higher. It is a great first step to other Competition Center programs in alpine, freestyle, and freeski programs, or to continue on with the All Mountain Team.

Our focus is to create lifelong skiers while learning to ski the whole mountain in all conditions. Skiers will be exposed to freestyle, park & pipe, racing and all-mountain skill sets. Groups of roughly eight children of similar age and ability will work closely with an expert Competition Center coach toward skill improvement. Internal competition opportunities will be provided, but are not required.

      Ability Expectations

Younger skiers must, at minimum, be able to get on and off the lift unassisted and be able to stop and make wedge turns on blue terrain, be able to manage their gear, and be able to get up unassisted. Most groups accommodating athletes 8 years old and above will start the season skiing at an advanced level.

Skiers who do not meet these requirements or cannot commit to a 14-week program should consider and may be asked to switch to one of the Ski and Ride School's shorter multi-week programs or the Competition Center’s All Mountain Ski Short Program if ages 10 and up.

    • All Mountain FRiday Program

All Mountain Friday Program is a 14-week program appropriate for skiers who might specialize in a particular discipline on Saturday and/or Sunday, and also acts as a great stand-alone program for the athlete skiing one day a week. Skiers ages 6-15 will join groups based on area of interest, ability, age, and coach specialty. There will be groups and coaches with the ability to ski practically anywhere on the mountain in almost any conditions.

      Ability Expectations
Prior to participation in this program, younger skiers should, at minimum, be able to get on and off the lift unassisted and be able to stop and make wedge turns on blue terrain, be able to manage their gear, and be able to get up unassisted. Most groups accommodating athletes 8 years old and above will start the season skiing at an advanced level.

Skiers who do not meet these requirements or cannot commit to a 14-week program should and may be asked to consider one of the Ski and Ride School's shorter multi-week programs. If age 10 or older and of advanced (black diamond terrain) ski ability, consider the Competition Center’s All Mountain Team of All Mountain Team - Short Program.

    • All Mountain Team

The All-Mountain Ski Team challenges black diamond skiers in the trees, steeps, and powder and is tailored toward 5th-8th graders (U14s) and high school age (U18) skiers. With a fun, high-energy peer group and guided by some of the Competition Center’s best coaches, the All Mountain Team skis Winter Park's most difficult terrain while focusing on skill specialization.

The All Mountain Ski Team is offered as a 10-week short program or 15-week long program. All-Mountain Ski Team athletes will focus on all-mountain skiing, adjusting techniques, and tactics for steep terrain and variable snow conditions. This Team is ideal for skiers who:

      - Are high-level skiers wanting to hone their skills on black and double black diamond terrain.
      - Eventually want to join the Freeride Big Mountain Team, ultimately competing in IFSA events.
      - Want to ski with peers of a similarly high-level but do not plan to compete.
      - Are no longer in a competitive program but want to continue to experience the comradery and coaching for progression inherent in Competition Center programs.
      - Have an interest in becoming a Junior Coach or trying out for Junior Patrol.

      Ability Expectations

For the U14 age group (10-13), the All Mountain Ski Team is an excellent program for former AMP Devo, Freestyle or Freeski Devo, or Team Discovery skiers who want to develop the skills to move into the Freeride Big Mountain Team or who want to continue with the Comp Center on a non-competitive team.

For high school-age athletes, the All Mountain Ski Team provides the same opportunities for progression into the Freeride Big Mountain Team. It is also a great option for those who are no longer on a competitive Alpine, Freestyle, Freeski Park + Pipe, or Freeride Big Mountain Team but want to remain part of the Comp Center team.

NOTE: This program can be a great next step for high-level Ski and Ride School program skiers, but is not necessarily appropriate for the occasional, recreational skier. Participants must come to the program with the ability and desire to ski at a high level. Athletes without the required skill set may be asked to transfer to another Winter Park Resort ski program or be offered a prorated refund.

    • Telemark Program

The Telemark Program is a 10-week program designed to challenge experienced Telemark skiers ages 8 and over with carving, moguls, tree skiing, steeps, and powder.
In the Telemark Program, the emphasis is placed on skill development on Winter Park's advanced terrain in a fun, high-energy environment. Skiers will gain confidence and skill at free-heel skiing, while learning new techniques to become a great all-around Telemark skier. Groups with similar abilities will work closely with an expert Competition Center coach to build on existing skills in order to maximize performance and have fun dropping a knee on the mountain's toughest terrain.
